Hauling and sorting of this waste costs San Mateo County $500 million per year!

88%

of plastic is not recycled and ends up in San Mateo County’s landfill and ultimately the Pacific Ocean.

The average person in San Mateo County generates 150 lbs of single-use plastic waste each year.

Plastic is made from fossil fuels. Its production releases an estimated 1.7 billion metric tons of CO2 annually. These emissions contribute to climate change and pose a number of serious health risks to frontline communities.

IMAGINE

No more single-use plastic containers and plastic forks when you sit down to eat.

Cafes that encourage you to bring a reusable cup.

Single-use utensils and condiments only upon request.

No more drawers of unneeded plastic forks.

A huge reduction in the waste you and I create.
